Up till about 6 months ago I used to rehearse in the Grey Horse on Saturday afternoons.

Used to gig there in the early 90s as well.

Gave up many a pound coin in the Peel.

Is the Peel in Kingston shut down yet?

Good thanks. A bit strange as it looks like the Grey Horse will stop being a venue for gigs next year. We've been playing there for 20 years so will be a bit strange if it's all over there.

Anyway, we went out with a bang. Here's a shot from last night that probably gives you an idea of the very serious nature of the band...

Ah bollocks Bungo, in Kingston this very afternoon but not the evening as got something on. Would have popped down mate and said hello Loudly. Hope it goes well.

Not sure about all this feeding signals through split channels all sounds a bit Nasa.

No problem. Will let you know next time.

Amp set up isn't really that complicated. The rack system I used to lug around was way worse, with midi switching and cabling like you wouldn't believe. I got a bit scared when I realised that if it went wrong during a gig, I wouldn't have had a clue where to even start trying to fix it. Got rid after that.

It was something like this..

Can you just not plug in, turn to 11 and play?

I've been through tons of gear over the years from my first Marshall head to a stupidly large rack system in the '80's, through a number of different stacks and combos.

I've currently settled on a dual 1x12" combo setup, a Hughes and Kettner Switchblade and a Blackstar ID:60.

Split the signal after the pedals, feed it into both amps with similar but slightly different settings and it sounds huge, (and can be carted around without too much difficulty).

Assaulting ears at The Grey Horse in Kingston this very evening.

Always preferred a fender twin/deluxe, I'm one of those limp wrists souls who prefer crisp clean melodic jangleness over raw power.

I have to say though that those Marshall stacks are an awesome sight.

Being the philistine I've turned into, I sold most of my gear to save space, plus I don't gig anymore, so I went out and bought an irig digital and iPod touch. Amazing for the price and fucking about at home.

Re: Play It Loud: The Story of the Marshall Amp BBC Four, 10.00pm
This is the weird thing.

If I went to a gig and say the guitarist was playing a Fender or Les Paul I would know fromVox the tone.

But I couldn't tell the differnce if they were playing through a Marshalll, Fender, Laney, Voc and all the other multitdue of amps on the Market these days.

But a backline of Marshall JCM 800's is surely one of the miggty sights in rock!!

Great show.

I got a beat up Silver Tone amp
I plug it in and it sounds like a champ
It's not a Fender Twin Deluxe
It only cost me a couple of bucks

Bought my first Marshall in '79. 50w JMP Master volume head. Saved up for a year to afford it.

Bought it in Macari's on Charing Cross Road. Still remember struggling to carry it down the road afterwards.

Felt like the king of the world with that behind me on stage.

Met Jim many times. Proper gent. In fast I was interviewed for a job by him once (I came second - bah!).

Mind you I prefer Blackstar now....
